Guicciardini Francesco (1483-1540) letterato, politico e storico nacque a Firenze nel 1483 e morì ad Arcetri nel 1540. La prima edizione della Storia d'Italia è del 1537-1540 e tratta il periodo dal 1490 (morte di Lorenzo il Magnifico, e discesa in Italia di Carlo VIII di Francia), al 1534 (dopo il sacco di Roma da parte dei Lanzichenecchi, morte di papa Clemente VII). Questa è l'edizione più rara e famosa, sia per le eleganti incisioni del Visentini, che per la impostazione tipografica di Giambattista Pasquali, e del suo socio occulto, il Console Joseph Smith. Guicciardini Francesco (1483-1540) scholar, politician and historian was born in Florence in 1483 and died in Arcetri in 1540. The first edition of the History of Italy is from 1537-1540 and deals with the period from 1490 (death of Lorenzo the Magnificent , and descent into Italy of Charles VIII of France), in 1534 (after the sack of Rome by the Lanzichenecchi, death of Pope Clement VII). This is the rarest and most famous edition, both for the elegant engravings by Visentini, and for the typography of Giambattista Pasquali, and his occult partner, the Consul Joseph Smith.
